On Saturday, Oct. 28, House of Raeford Farms’ FLOCK volunteers renewed their commitment to the MedCamps of Louisiana by donning their capes and calling on their superpowers to decorate a Gotham City superhero-themed cabin for the kids attending MedCamps of Louisiana’s 2017 Annual Fall Bash.
For the past few years, volunteers from House of Raeford’s Arcadia complex have donated both their time and their superpowers to the MedCamps of Louisiana’s Fall Bash which seeks to provide children with disabilities the opportunity to partake in various fall-themed activities alongside children with similar disabilities. This year, more than 1,000 attendees got to partake in fall activities, including trick-or-treating, exploring a haunted house, trying new arts and crafts, and visiting a petting zoo, among many other fun and festive activities.
This year, House of Raeford’s cabin provided a fully immersive experience, much to the campers’ delight. When campers approached House of Raeford’s cabin, they instantly got into character and readied themselves to defeat any supervillain in sight.
“This is what our work is all about,” said Mitzi Gaddy, quality assurance manager at House of Raeford Arcadia. “Seeing the joy on the campers’ faces only motivates us to give back even more because this accepting environment is such a positive force in their lives.”
Part fundraiser, the proceeds from the Fall Bash will go toward upgrading select cabins and building a gift shop to help accommodate more campers and improve their overall experience.
Over the years, FLOCK’s partnership with Louisiana’s MedCamps has grown to extend beyond philanthropic work. Both FLOCK and Louisiana’s MedCamps were founded on similar Christian values that emphasize community engagement and making a positive difference in people’s lives.
The Fall Bash is just one of several outreach events in which House of Raeford Arcadia is involved supporting MedCamps of Louisiana. In the summer, FLOCK sponsors various themed dinners by not only donating food, but by volunteering to cook, distribute meals, and most importantly, interact with the campers.
