2016 in Review and a Look to 2017

By Bob Johnson

2016 has been a great year for House of Raeford Farms. I continue to be so proud of this company, the people who make it what it is, and the good work we are doing in the industry and in our communities. I’d like to share some of my highlights of 2016 with you.

This spring, we launched a brand new website that showcases our history, product mix and services, and commitment to do the right thing in all the things we do.

In June, we opened a state-of-the-art hatchery in our W. Columbia complex. A high quality product starts with healthy chicks, and this new facility provides the assurance of consistently healthy chicks.

We also implemented bone detection technology in all of our complexes. Now, 100% of our boneless products undergo this detection. This added layer of quality assurance is an important piece of our commitment to food safety.

We doubled down on our commitment to environmental stewardship by upgrading the wastewater process at our Louisiana, Rose Hill, and Mocksville complexes. The upgrade is also underway in W. Columbia.

Our service organization FLOCK has also been hard at work this year, continuing its good and important work across the southeast. One special event this year was the Jeremiah Castille Character Football Camp. More than 400 student athletes came to Wallace for the camp and spent two days working to reach their fullest potential, both on and off the field.

Personally, this year will also be remembered as a tough one. My father and the founder of House of Raeford Farms, Marvin Johnson, passed away in August at the age of 89. He started and grew this company and he left us with the wonderful opportunity to continue the vision that he had.

As we look ahead to 2017, I have to extend a sincere word of thanks to everyone who makes House of Raeford what it is. From the complex management to production to live operations—you are House of Raeford. I am grateful for the dedication, pride, and sense of ownership you feel over this company. It wouldn’t be what it is without you, and I’m excited to see what 2017 has in store for us all.

From my house to yours, Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year.
