Rose Hill, NC – August 16, 2016: House of Raeford Farms announced today that it is awarding $50,000 in college scholarships to 20 students through the House of Raeford Scholarship Program. The scholarship program provides funding for employees’ dependent children and grandchildren who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs. Twenty students were selected from North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and Louisiana, representing each area within the company’s footprint.
This year, 17 recipients are first-year college students, two recipients are beginning their second year, and one recipient is pursuing a graduate degree. Each 2016 House of Raeford Scholarship recipient was awarded $2,500.
“The scholars selected to receive this year’s House of Raeford Farms Scholarship awards have demonstrated academic excellence, community leadership, and ambition for a successful future,” said House of Raeford Farms CEO Bob Johnson. “House of Raeford is deeply committed to our employees—our greatest assets. Students were selected based on a number of criteria, including academic record, leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, a statement of goals and aspirations and unusual personal or family circumstances.
The 2016 House of Raeford Farms Scholarship recipients are:
- Robert Abbott, son of Jason Abbott of the Filet of Chicken division, attending Georgia Perimeter College
- Tavion Bright, nephew of Patricia Boney of the Rose Hill division, attending Shaw University
- Mattison Caughman, daughter of Michelle Rish of the Batesburg-Leesville division, attending University of South Carolina Aiken
- Mollie Cavenaugh, daughter of Michael Cavenaugh of the Johnson Breeders division, attending East Carolina University
- Anna Combs, daughter of Neal Combs of the Rose Hill division, attending the University of South Carolina Columbia
- Peter Crickmore, son of Curtis Crickmore, of the Raeford Foods division, attending the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill
- Austin Floyd, son of Rebecca Floyd of the Lavonia division, attending the University of Georgia
- Devitta Gardner, daughter of Tameaka Gardner of the Arcadia division, attending Bossier Parish Community College
- Madison Hammond, daughter of Danny Hammond of the Greenville division, attending Furman University
- Jonae Herring, daughter of Fayth Herring of the Corporate division, attending East Carolina University
- Lauren Jones, daughter of Lahoma Jones of the Rose Hill division, attending Cape Fear Community College
- Almeera Lateef, daughter of Uzair Lateef of the West Columbia division, attending the University of South Carolina Columbia
- Azaifa Lateef, daughter of Uzair Lateef of the West Columbia division, attending the University of South Carolina Columbia
- Marshall Matthews, son of Michelle Matthews of the Corporate division, attending Cape Fear Community College
- Audrey Mcgee, daughter of Nick Mcgee of the Lavonia division, attending Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College
- Yurleidy Piedrahita, daughter of Claudia Piedrahita of the Greenville division, attending the University of South Carolina Columbia
- Jalia Pruitt, daughter of Tonya Pruitt of the Arcadia division, attending Grambling State University
- David Rochelle, son of Linda Rochelle of the Arcadia division, attending Grambling State University
- Paige Smith, daughter of Barry Smith of the Arcadia division, attending Southern Arkansas University
- Daniel Wornstaff, son of Matthew Wornstaff of the Filet of Chicken division, attending Georgia College and State University
Through this scholarship program, established in 2014, House of Raeford has awarded nearly $110,000 to more than 40 students in four states.
