FLOCK Supports Music and Mentorship at the Duplin Music Academy

School is back in session, and lessons at the Duplin Music Academy are in full swing. The brainchild of founder Melodee Wynne, the Academy is entering its ninth year of private music lessons in Rose Hill, NC.

After about 30 years of teaching piano, Wynne identified a need in town. Understanding the profound impact that music education can have on young people, she recruited a couple more instructors and officially founded the Duplin Music Academy (DMA). Since 2006, more than 2,500 students have studied in Wynne’s program.

With a specific interest in youth development, House of Raeford Farms FLOCK has always been dedicated to providing children in need with access to resources, education, or relationships that may not be readily available otherwise. Together, FLOCK leadership and Melodee partnered to offer those children access to music.

FLOCK provides scholarships to children who are musically inclined, but who don’t have access to the high-quality, one-on-one attention they need to enhance their talents.

The partnership between FLOCK and DMA was born in 2014 and has continued to grow. With FLOCK providing scholarships, young people are able to attend the Academy without concern for funding. They just get to play music.

DMA’s motto is “Where Nurturing Begins.” And it is so true.

For many children, troubles at home or at school melt away when they arrive for their music lesson. The instructors have seen shy children blossom, sad children light up, and troubled children find their way.

As Melodee says, “This time is theirs. Nobody can take it away, and nobody else can control it. It’s their time, their outlet.”
