House of Raeford Farms FLOCK, the nonprofit arm of House of Raeford Farms, is thrilled to be a sponsor of the first-annual Kinetic Derby Day presented by the City of West Columbia, South Carolina, on April 21. For those who are unfamiliar, a kinetic parade consists only of human-powered floats. That means no engines, motors or high-powered floats allowed!
Kinetic Derby Day presents a unique opportunity to get kids and adults alike engaged in a fun educational experience. In addition to the floats and parade, Kinetic Derby Day will also feature adult and child soapbox derby racing. One of the pillars of FLOCK is youth development, including education, which is why FLOCK is offering a $200 gift card to schools or classrooms interested in building a soap box derby car of their own.
“As a dad, I desire my children to possess critical thinking skills, ingenuity and so much more. Hopefully, this event inspires people to get their children involved as well as themselves for the betterment of our community,” said Chuck Underhill, FLOCK outreach director for House of Raeford’s West Columbia location. “Everything FLOCK does revolves around trying to make our community a valuable and enjoyable place to live. I’m so excited to see this event continue to grow and become a West Columbia tradition in the coming years.”
The festivities will kick off with an art festival and kinetic parade at 10 a.m. followed by soapbox racing at 11 a.m. and a 3 p.m. happy hour. In addition to the parade and races, food trucks and art vendors will also be on-site. However you choose to participate in Kinetic Derby Day, FLOCK is excited to be involved in an event that fosters a creative, eclectic and imaginative opportunity for community members of all ages.
So mark your calendars and be sure to grab your family and friends. We’d love to see you on April 21 to “Show Us Your Grit!”
