Company offers chicken raised without antibiotics important to humans
Antibiotic use in animal production and the potential for antibiotic resistance are important issues for consumers and House of Raeford Farms. Our approach is simple: No Antibiotics Ever (NAE). The USDA Process Verified Program certifies that there are no antibiotics used during production.
“House of Raeford’s goal is to continue producing a wide variety of products to meet our customers’ varying requirements,” said corporate communications and sustainability manager Dave Witter. “Besides our fresh ready-to-cook breast and dark meat selections, we also have a collection of cooked products like rotisserie chicken and mini corndogs available without antibiotics.”
School food service is a significant market for our company, and the requirement for NAE products continues to expand. In response to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) requirement of 10 percent less sodium in the school lunch menu, House of Raeford is ready with a versatile NAE pulled rotisserie chicken to meet that standard. The product retains its classic flavor and flexibility that continues to make it a staple with school nutrition professionals. Its adaptable format allows for the easy creation of home-inspired entrees that kids enjoy.
“House of Raeford has multi-faceted systems and practices in place that address all aspects of the chicken’s life in order to promote good health and minimize the need for antibiotics,” said House of Raeford’s corporate veterinarian Dr. Shannon Jennings. “This includes investments in newer, environmentally controlled housing, better management practices, good nutrition, and solid disease prevention strategies. We never use antibiotics for improving growth, and only employ antibiotics if absolutely necessary to keep our chickens healthy and safe.”
