Taking Action to Combat Hunger

Ask yourself.  Have you had anything to eat today?  Was it a planned meal or maybe just a small snack?  Did you purchase it from a restaurant or grocery store, or perhaps make it yourself from food you have stored in your pantry or refrigerator?

It seems like a rather simple question.  However, to many the answer is not as easy.  It is difficult because millions of people in our country and across the globe do not have access to a regular supply of food.  And we believe no one should have to go hungry.  There are more than enough resources in the world for us all to eat well.

September is Hunger Action Month, established by Feeding America back in 2008, and House of Raeford Farms takes this matter seriously.  As a chicken production company, we understand the importance of producing nutritious products, and we work hard every day to provide over a billion pounds of quality protein annually to our retail, commercial, and community sale customers.  In addition, we donate enough chicken each year to serve hundreds of thousands of meals to those in need.  Benefactors include large regional food banks, smaller food pantries, churches, and other ministry outreach groups serving meals to food insecure families in their community.  Our efforts not only touch adults but also children struggling to stay focused in school when they are hungry.  We have also been on the front lines in our House of Raeford communities helping meet food demand needs during crises and natural disasters like hurricanes.

“Nutritious food is the most basic building block of life, and we believe that everyone, and especially children, should have access to the necessary nutrition that gives them a foundation to thrive and succeed in life,” said Curtis Carr, House of Raeford’s corporate Director of Community Outreach.  “Hunger Relief has always been a primary focus area for our work, and we have invested significantly in our local communities to help meet the needs within each. This would not be possible without the many individuals and organizations that are combating hunger daily on the frontlines in our neighborhoods.  We are incredibly grateful for these partnerships, and we hope to see many more get involved in this fight.”

To be directly involved, you can find people in your community who are working to help bring food to the disadvantaged. Food drives, volunteer efforts, and donations are always welcome and help to battle this epidemic. We would be happy to connect you with one of our local partners, if you do not know where to start!

Whatever the outlet and no matter how small the act/gift may seem, we encourage you to do something. We can all contribute to this cause and help be a source of nourishment to others. With everyone doing their part, we can really make a difference.
