Keeping Her In The Picture

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, designed to provide help and hope through early detection, education, and support services.  According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, one in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.  House of Raeford Farms takes this matter seriously and is providing information and action steps to help make a difference in the health of our employees.

For several years, Company locations in North Carolina have arranged for mobile mammogram units to come on property at their facilities to offer mammogram screenings for employees.  This year the Rose Hill, North Carolina plant has arranged to transport associates to a local hospital to receive the scan.  All participants will receive a “Fight like a Chick” t-shirt.

The Greenville, South Carolina operation purchased awareness shirts for all of their employees and highlighted local clinics where employees could get screenings at no charge under their health insurance coverage.  Our Arcadia, Louisiana location invited employees to wear pink clothing every Friday during the month of October, while Hemingway, South Carolina held a Wellness Day for all employees to include flu shots and literature that focused on the value of breast cancer screenings.  Arcadia even reaches out into the community each October to support “Tea Time for a Cure,” a local fundraising event to create awareness and celebrate breast cancer survivors.

Fortunately, because of awareness campaigns and funding for research, more and more women are now survivors, including House of Raeford employees, due to early detection and improved treatment options.  We will continue to support this cause by getting the word out to our associates and their families.
